Jewish Education: Go and Study

Jewish Education

Letter from the Director of Religious Education

In Hebrew we say b’ruchim ha-ba’im when we greet each other. I love this phrase because it literally means “blessed be those who have come here.” I am a relative newcomer to Temple Emanuel myself, having joined the staff here in the summer of 2003. My wife, our two young children and I feel blessed each and every day to be part of such a warm, inviting and vibrant community and congregation.

I love my job with Temple Emanuel. As an Assistant Rabbi, I work closely with Rabbi Fred Guttman (we kid that we are twin sons of different mothers). As the Director of Religious Education, I get to interact with our congregation’s learners, no matter what their age. Our Sunday Religious School and weekday Hebrew School are noted for teaching our youth the Jewish life skills and connections that will make our tradition both meaningful and enjoyable. A large percentage of Temple Emanuel’s high school students avail themselves of the learning and social opportunities present each week through Greensboro’s Jewish Community High School. Our adult education line-up features a wide array of classes ranging from the fundamentals of Judaism and Hebrew language to more advanced explorations of Jewish thought, history and practice. Simply stated, we are a congregation that highly values lifelong Jewish education.

So, once again, b’ruchim ha-ba’im – welcome to our congregation. Not only will you find Temple Emanuel to be a well of blessings, but I know that we will be blessed by having you as part of our growing family.
